NOB is organising two extra large snorkelling days in Gelderland this summer
Two large snorkel days with three sessions each, allowing 120 participants to explore Dutch underwater nature. Saturday 18 July 2026 (Bussloo) and Sunday 9 August 2026 (Groene Heuvels); sessions at 09:30, 12:00 and 14:30 in Bussloo and Groene Heuvels, both in Gelderland, the Netherlands.
Veenendaal, 8 June 2026 – Building on the success of previous years, the Royal Netherlands Underwater Sports Federation (NOB) is once again organising snorkelling days for participants of all ages this summer. This year, the federation is introducing a new format: two large-scale snorkelling days, each featuring three snorkelling sessions. In total, 120 participants will have the opportunity to discover the remarkable underwater nature of the Netherlands.
Snorkelling is an accessible way to explore life beneath the surface. Just below the waterline, participants can observe fish, aquatic plants and other fascinating species. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, the NOB demonstrates just how much there is to experience in Dutch waters.
Dates and locations
The snorkelling days will take place on:
- Saturday 18 July – Bussloo (Gelderland)
- Sunday 9 August – Groene Heuvels (Gelderland)
On both days, three sessions will be held: at 09:30, 12:00 and 14:30. Each day has capacity for 60 participants, divided across three groups of 20 people.
For all ages
The snorkelling days are open to everyone aged 10 and above who holds a swimming certificate (Dutch swimming diploma A). Participants are welcome to bring their own snorkelling equipment or use gear provided by the NOB. The programme begins with an equipment briefing, after which the group enters the water with an instructor to explore underwater life. Each session lasts approximately one and a half hours.
No prior experience is required, making the event equally suitable for those who have never explored the underwater world before. Instructors accompany every group from start to finish, ensuring that participants of all levels feel comfortable and at ease.
New this year: combining snorkelling with stand-up paddleboarding
This year, the NOB is partnering with SamenSuppen. During both snorkelling days, SamenSuppen will be organising stand-up paddleboard (SUP) excursions from the same location. This makes it easy for visitors to combine a snorkelling session with a trip on a paddleboard. Both activities can be booked independently, but their schedules are well aligned.
SUP and snorkelling are both low-barrier outdoor activities that are perfectly suited to a day in and around the water. The partnership makes it easier for families and groups to plan a varied and enjoyable day out.
What to expect in the water
Bussloo and Groene Heuvels are well-known lakes in Gelderland, offering clear water and a diverse range of underwater life. Participants can look forward to spotting native fish species, aquatic plants and sometimes even amphibians. The NOB's instructors know both locations well and will point out highlights and species of particular interest.
Anyone who wants to learn more about Dutch underwater nature after the snorkelling day is welcome to explore the follow-up courses and diving lessons available through the NOB.
Participation and registration
Participation costs € 9.95 for NOB members and € 19.95 for non-members (excluding transaction fees). Further information and the registration form can be found on the NOB website: www.onderwatersport.org/twee-extra-grote-snorkeldagen-nog-meer-avontuur-onder-water
